Some private aircraft companies have volunteered to render free helicopter service to airlift the elderly and sick devotees from Licholi to Kedarnath shrine as the trek route is covered in thick sheets of snow.
It was not possible to clear the snow from the 4.5 kms route between Licholi to Kedarnath before Char Dham yatra commences on May 2, some private companies had decided to provide free helicopter service to these devotees.

There are 500 tents and pre-fabricated huts for a comfortable night halt and will provide dinner for devotees at Licholi. After their night halt at Licholi, the pilgrims would be flown to Kedarnath from Licholi helipad by two helicopters at a time.
Note: Efforts would be made to shift all pilgrims staying at Licholi to Kedarnath before the sun sets every day.
The entire Rudraprayag to Gaurikund and Phata to Sonprayag routes had been totally reconstructed, with good road conditions.
