Last year Chardham Yatra was affected by the Covid epidemic. But this year the tourism department has started preparations ahead of time. Arrangements are being made for photometric registration of the pilgrims visiting for the first time.
With the help of Photometric registration, the tourism department will keep a photo record of the pilgrims visiting Char Dham Yatra. The purpose of photometric registration is to easily identify people in an emergency. Thousands of people lost their lives in the Kedarnath tragedy in 2013, while the missing people have not been traced till date.
Chardham Yatra will begin with opening of Gangotri Dham
The dates of opening of Chardham shrines, the doors of opening Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham has been fixed. Chardham Yatra for 2021 will begin with the opening of the doors of Gangotri Dham on 14 May.

Last year only 10 percent pilgrims visited Chardham Yatra
Due to the Covid epidemic, only 10 percent of pilgrims reached Chardham Yatra last year. In the year 2019, 33 lakh devotees visited the Chardham, while in 2020 only about 3 lakh pilgrims visited the shrines. Last year, the government allowed the people of the state to travel from July 1 due to Corona infection. Whereas from July 25, travelers outside the state were allowed in the conditional Chardham Yatra.

Tourism Secretary Dilip Jawalkar said Photometric registration of pilgrims will be done during Chardham Yatra. From this time every pilgrims will be registered with photometric system. For this, both offline and online registration will be facilitated. Pilgrims who wants to visit Chardham Yatra will be able to register while sitting at home.
