Uttarakhand government is now planning to bring the famous Himalayan rivers Mandakini and Saraswati back to its pre disaster form.
The centre government has assigned the work to Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS). And Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) will be tasked to create banks on both rivers in Kedarnath.
Due to 2013 deluge the flow of both the rivers had merged. Earlier the path of the rivers was separate and flowed surrounding Kedarnath. The team of NIM in Kedarnath has however achieved success in getting back the rivers to their original path.
But the state government is now trying to bring the rivers back to their form. According to CM Harish Rawat the work is being handed over to the undertaking of Ministry of Water Resources, WAPCOS.
Mandakini river used to flow to the left side of the shrine in Kedarnath. After the disaster, it started flowing from the right. And Saraswati river also merged with it. However, NIM shortly gained success in getting the streams to their native path.
