Central Roadways and Highway Ministry has given green signal to the proposal of building double lane roads on char dham route. A whopping 13 thousand crores is granted by government for the work. This will enable travellers to enjoy several facilities on the way. According to the project, complete roads connecting four shrines will be converted into two way lanes which will help in easing down the traffic jam. Pithoragarh and Tanakpur will also be linked to the char dham route. The 898 km stretch will be boasted with food joints, rest house and toilet facilities for the travellers.
The centre of attraction in this project is construction of double lane roads on Gangotri-Yamunotri-Kedarnath and Badrinath route. The new proposal will also cause the change in the alignment of route at certain places. The route of Karnaprayag, Rishikesh, Helang in Joshimath, Champawat, Lohaghat and Pithoragarh will also change. The road alignment for the upcoming project has been finalised. The work of land shifting and requisition is left for which proceedings are under process. The proposal for the same has been forwarded to State Government by National Highway Division.
