The chopper services to Kedarnath shrine have been called off following incessant rains and bad weather. Out of 13 companies providing chopper services for Kedarnath pilgrimages, 12 have packed up and only one service – Devbhoomi Air Services – is operating from Rudraprayag, in case of emergencies. The services are expected to resume in September during the second phase of annual pilgrimage.
Out of 2.5 lakh pilgrims who visited Kedarnath shrine, 58,000 used the chopper service. The officials of chopper services said that although they were mandated to operate from May to July but due to the incessant rains and poor visibility they had to suspend the services. The season was good for them, nonetheless.
