The number of pilgrims who have visited Chardham Yatra so far has crossed 45 Lakh. Over 45 Lakh pilgrims have visited Chardham Temples in till Month of September. More than 15.45 lakh devotees have visited Kedarnath Dham. According to the report released by the Tourism Department, from April 22 to Sept, more than 45 lakh pilgrims have visited Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham. In this 15,45,675 devotees have visited Kedarnath Dham, 15,06,086 in Badrinath, 9,21,237 in Gangotri, 7,20,973 in Yamunotri .

Badrinath national highway has finally been reopened for traffic on Friday morning. The highway had been blocked for over 17 hours due to a massive landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district. This unfortunate incident left hundreds of pilgrims stranded, forcing them to spend the night in their vehicles. The blockade, which began around 10 am on Thursday, came to an end at 3.30 am on Friday, as confirmed by Ravindra Negi, the additional information officer of Chamoli. Authorities swiftly prioritized the clearing of vehicles returning from Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib.

The iconic Tungnath Shiva Temple, known as the world’s highest Shiva temple, situated at an elevation of 12,800 feet in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, has been found to have a significant tilt, according to a study conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The study revealed a tilt of 5 to 6 degrees in the temple structure and up to 10 degrees in the idols and smaller structures within the temple premises.

Great news for those planning to travel to Kedarnath via helicopter during the upcoming Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra 2023. The third phase of ticket booking for Kedarnath Heli Service is about to begin, and travelers need to be alert to ensure they don’t miss out on the opportunity to book their tickets.
According to C. Ravi Shankar, CEO of UCADA, ticket booking for the third phase will start on May 7 and will be open for one week. It’s important to note that notification regarding this may come on the official website, so pilgrims are advised to keep an eye out for updates and ensure they are ready to book their tickets when the booking window opens.

Starting from the first day of opening, each devotee will receive a token indicating a specific one-hour time slot for their darshan of Baba Kedar. The tokens will also indicate the number of devotees allowed for darshan during that hour, with only 1200 tokens being issued per hour. This system is expected to streamline the darshan experience, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience for all pilgrims.

According to the Deputy Director of Tourism, Yogendra Gangwar, the registration process for Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham will start only when the date of opening of the doors is declared. As of now, two lakh devotees have already registered for the Char Dham Yatra, with 1.12 lakh pilgrims registering for Kedarnath and 92 thousand registering for Badrinath.

The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) is currently in the process of selecting a helicopter company for Kedarnath, based on factors such as rental rates, experience in heli service, and other technical parameters. The aim is to complete the contract process in March, after which online booking for heli services to Kedarnath can begin in April.It is important to note that there may be a 15 to 20 percent increase in the fare of heli services this year. This is due to the fact that the fare for heli services has not been increased in the last three years. Pilgrims who wish to use heli services to visit Kedarnath are advised to keep this in mind and plan their budget accordingly.

An important decision regarding the registration of Char Dham Yatris was made at a meeting held on Thursday in the secretariat under the chairmanship of Transport Secretary Arvind Singh Hyanki. Officials from the Tourism Department and NIC also participated in the meeting. It was decided that this year, the tourism department will only accept online registrations for Char Dham Yatra via its website, instead of offline registrations. Pilgrims will be registered in advance based on the capacity of the Char Dham shrines.

Chairman of the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, Ajendra Ajay, informed that as per the tradition, the Gaadu Ghada was transported from Narsingh Temple to Yogadhyan temple in Pandukeshwar before the opening of the Badrinath temple doors. On Tuesday, the Gaadu Ghada will be worshipped in the temple of Lord Uddhav Kuber at Yogadhyan temple in Pandukeshwar. It is a time-honored practice that the date for opening the doors of Badrinath Dham is determined when the Gaadu Ghada reaches the royal court of the Tehri King on the occasion of Vasant Panchami. Opening date of Badrinath Temple is 27 Apr.

The Tourism department has recently issued an order to the ropeway agency for the construction of a ropeway between Kharsali to Yamunotri Temple. If all goes as planned, the construction work for the Yamunotri ropeway will commence in February. This proposed ropeway will span 3.5 kms, with an estimated cost of 1200 crores, and will enable easy pilgrimage to the Yamunotri Dham. The project was initially approved in 2006, and the villagers of Kharsali village generously donated 62 nali of land for the ropeway’s construction. However, due to technical difficulties in land transfer, the construction was delayed.
