In an attempt to promote indigineous artisians and tourism in the region the government has decided to put up stalls propping handicraft and local cuisines on routes to Char dham yatras. Cheif Secretry N Ravishankar has issued notifications in a move to boost reginoal tourism and handicraft industry.
Speaking in a workshop to promote textile tourism, on thursday said that if textile tourism can join hands with tourism then it could be the start of new possibilities for the region. To undertake this task he pressed upon the need to develop souvenir shops.
He further instructed to organise Centre’s Special Handloop Expo on pilgramage route supplimenting the expo a food court is to be put in place that would cater tourists with delicacies from Kumaon and Garhwal region.Thus tourism can be encorporated with textile to generate revenue and income for the region.
He advocated to implement the same model in the Ardh Kumbh Mela 2016 to generate revenue and hence causing development to the calamity marred state of U’khand. He ordered to complete the NABARD’s proposed IIDF plan to organise exhibitions that would include Bheemtalla, Rudrprayag, Uttarakashi, Haridwar, Kashipur and Haldwani.
Principal Secretary MH Khan later apprised that artisians are being helped by experts from the National Institute of Design to develop their products and hence the training of local youth is still underway to promote self employment in these regions.
