Heavy rainfall on Thursday disrupted the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. The torrential rain resulted in landslides which blocked the routes to the Himalayan shrine.
Temporary suspension of Kedarnath Yatra
The Kedarnath yatra was suspended for June 26-27, whereas the pilgrimage remained unaffected as the local authorities said though river Bhagirathi has risen but the water is below the danger level. Rudraprayag District Magistrate Raghav Langer stated – The yatra to Kedarnath has been suspended as the road near Gauri Kund is blocked due to landslides. Nearly 500 pilgrims returning from the shrine have been moved to safer places. They will take the downward trek after the roads are cleared.”
MET forecasts
The yatra to Gangotri has been postponed and the pilgrims have been asked to stop at Haril about 25 km from the shrine. MET department forecasted that the situation may become serious as heavy rainfall may occur for the next 48 hour, especially in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pauri, Almora, Pithoragarh and Nainital.
