Mobile Doppler radar for Amarnath Yatra
Similarly, a Mobile Doppler Radar has been approved for Amarnath Yatra. Actually, it is not possible to cover the entire path by putting the radar at one place on this route.
Radar will help to get pre-disaster information
The above three religious routes are important for the country. Millions of people visit this pilgrimage every year. Due to bad weather, rain and other weather conditions there is a lot of catastrophe in these routes, many times the roads are closed. But with the help of Doppler radar, it is possible to assess heavy rains, cloud bursts, three to six hours before and so much time is enough for people to be careful.
11 Radars will be setup in 3 Hilly states
Dr. Ramesh said that the entire state will also get benefit from the radar along with the travel routes. He said that apart from Auli and Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, two more radars will also be set up in Mussoorie and Nainital. Similarly, in Himachal Pradesh, three radars will be located in Shimla, Bhuntar and Dalhousie. There are also plans to install three radars in Jammu, Leh and Kupwara. The orders for their purchase have been given and they will start doing this work in the next six months.
Expansion will be done in the plains and northeast States
The weather department will set up 11 more radar in the next phase at other plains states of the country. After this, 10 radars will be installed in the northeast in the third phase. The Meteorological Department currently operates 26 Doppler radars, whose data is directly found in the Weather Building Delhi. On completion of the three phases, the department will have a good network of radars in the country and it will be possible to make the weather forecast more precise.
One radar covers around 250km area
The range of radars in the mountainous region will be hundred kilometres. However, the range of radar in the plains is up to 250 km. The radars of coastal areas are more powerful. The cost of radars in the mountainous region are of three million, while in plain areas it costs around 6 crore and 8 crore in coastal areas.
