Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) is planning to utilize its silver stock donated by devotees to redistribute as souvenir silver coins with Prasad. A large amount of silver has been deposited for the past 42 years.
From next year pilgrims can buy the silver coins as souvenir from Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines. The BKTC has started to approach coin making companies and already received approval from state government.
The Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee wants to use its silver stock lying unused in their treasury since 1974. As per latest estimate the BKTC treasury has over 3500 kg of silver in the stock. The pilgrims taking darshans at Badrinath and Kedarnath makes siver and gold offering.
By each year Chardham Yatra the stock of silver and gold increases, so BKTC makes to convert the stock in coin form. The committee will also generate revenue with these coins.
