Centre Govt has approved the construction of new Ghats on the rivers in Kedarnath & Haridwar. These ghats will be a constructed as a part of drive to clean the river Ganga.
“A new Ghat in Haridwar will be constructed at Chandighat. The construction will be managed by central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and work will start next month”, Union water resources ministry said.
These ghats will strengthen the embankments of Mandakini and Saraswati rivers.
Work on these ghats will start from February next year. A detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared in consultations with the experts from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi.
The ministry also decide to support ongoing ‘Namami Gange’ programme as assistance for Ardh Kumbh.
The ministry took these decisions as follow up actions of the meeting and consultation between the Union water resources minister Uma Bharti and the Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat over these issues at Dehradun on October 25.
