The adverse weather conditions on Sunday lead to continuous snowfall for more than 5 hours in Kedarnath. The low-lying areas in Rudraprayag district had widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning. The continuous fresh snowfall added 6 to 8 inches snow to the already frozen 8 feet snow in the Kedar valley. The inclement weather conditions took a blow on the restoration work till the noon time. The mercury fell sharply making people shiver. A maximum temperature of 6 degree and minimum minus 1.8 degree celsius is recorded.
The heavy rainfall striked low-lying areas of Chamoli district on Sunday. Another spell of moderate snowfall was reported in Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, Lal Maati, Auli and Gorson Bugyal. A number of areas in the district were lashed by hailstorm, followed by sharp shower accompanied by fierce winds. A maximum temperature of 16 degree celsius was reported in Gopeshwar. The higher peaks of Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarkashi district were shrouded with snow in the late evening. The district headquarters and the low land areas also received scattered rain. Where the temperature was reaching 28 degree Celsius in the past few days, it jumped to 18 degrees during the day on Sunday. Minimum temperature of 7 degree celsius was reported. Intermittent snowfall on higher reaches and rainfall in lower regions of the district has brought the mercury down in the region. Pithoragarh also received snowfall while the areas of Pauri district witnessed mild rainfall. The entire region was in the grip of chilly winds and people were confined to their houses as the temperature had dropped.
