The cabinet meeting which to was to be held in Kedarnath on 20 October will now be held at the Himalayan shrine on October 21 as decided earlier.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s media incharge Surendra Kumar noted, “The meeting has been preponed to ensure that no one miss it because the previous date was coinciding with the Dhanteras festival.”
Responding to the reason behind holding the cabinet meeting at high altitude temple, he said the chief minister wanted all cabinet members to assess the extent of destruction caused in the Kedar valley by last year’s calamity so they could check and come up with best possible ways for rebuild efforts in the area, Kumar said.
The state government is likely to put its final seal of approval on the rehabilitation and reconstruction plan around the famous temple at the upcoming cabinet meeting.
The meeting to be held in Kedarnath is the second meeting outside the capital after the first one held in Almora.
Clearing an elaborate action plan for rehabilitation and reconstruction work at the temple and adjoining areas is high on the state cabinet’s agenda for the meeting.
The meeting also aims at speeding up the reconstruction work of the valley and the temple spreading out the message to the world that everything is back to normal pace now in the valley which was worst hit by the heavy flash floods in June 2013.
The upcoming meeting is also in line with the Chief Minister’s plan to hold a meeting of the cabinet outside the capital at least once in a month to impart momentum to development activities outside Dehradun.
